Cambodia lies at the heart of Indochina. The capital Phnom Penh has been revived with sidewalk cafes and riverfront beautification schemes. But the epitome of any trip to Cambodia must surely be Angkor Wat, one of the foremost architectural wonders of the world. It is thought to be both a tomb and a temple built to honour the Hindu god Vishnu. Built at the height of the Khmer civilization as a major administrative and religious centre, all of the wooden buildings have long since disappeared and the 100 or so remaining sandstone monuments were all but lost to the jungle.
